27-29th January 2010 - Birmingham, UK
All BOLD project partners met in Birmingham for the start up meeting. All partners had opportunity to present and discuss the planned BOLD research projects and forge new collaborations in relaxed atmosphere. The talks included topics, which will be studied by the network:
- Genetic and metabolic networks guiding normal development and differentiation of liver and pancreas.
- Dynamics of genetic and metabolic regulation of liver and pancreatic functions.
- Development of new treatments for Liver and Pancreatic Diseases (LPD) using high throughput evaluation of LPD phenotypes in model organisms and humans.
- Interplay between individual genotype, metabolic profile and development of diabetes.
- Assessment of individual response to therapeutic treatment depending on genotype and “metabotype”.

Recruitment, administration, website development and future meetings have been discussed at the Supervisory board meeting. One of the highlights of the meeting was the talk on the use of zebrafish models in the investigation of liver and pancreatic development by Didier Stainier (University of California, San Francisco), the international advisor to BOLD.
The social highlights included a visit to taste local cuisine at “Asha’s” and Jan Garbarek concert in Birmingham Townhall.
